Nothing worse than mediocre Mexican food. I probably would have done better to stop at Chipotle. I ordered a three taco platter, one beef, two chicken, with rice and beans. They charge an additional $1 for soft tacos...why? The soft tacos were just cold tortillas with meat, cheddar cheese, and iceberg lettuce...that's it. The meat had some flavor but no real spice. The beans were over done, like they'd been cooking all day, and the rice had a ton of black pepper in it. And there was no hot sauce anywhere. Overall the service was good but the food was really dull, totally lacked flavor. Almost as bad as eating bad Chinese.

Gross! I will never go back and honestly, I feel like I may get sick from the little that I just ate.

Officially over it. Ordered a philly cheese steak, major disappointment. The first time I had one it was fine. Worth the $6. Today an absolute joke. I'm almost taking it personal. The place is a normal spot for me to grab lunch so I know what a normal portion looks like. They weren't busy so there is no excuse for this pathetic sandwich they served me.

Can't I give 0 stars? Train wreck. First greeting by the overpowering smell of rancid mop bucket filth, lucky enough to be seated at the stickiest table west of the Mississippi, finally served food that is inferior to anything that ever came out of a convenience store microwave. I promise I will never be back.

Terrible. The salsa was tomato paste with red pepper flakes...seriously? The cheese dip was clearly velveeta and they couldn't even manage to make it THAT good. Come on. Velveeta and Rotel can actually be a decent dip. They f'ed it up. I had the chile relleno. It was soggy and had no flavor. The only thing I can say about this place that slightly resembles a compliment is that it was fast. Don't bother unless you're going to happy hour. Even the tacos are over-priced here.

Worst mexican food I ever had bar none. Went there for lunch and feel horrible. The sauce tasted like ketchup. The hot sauce tasted like ketchup with a hint of tabasco they mixed in. Top the burritos with velvetta cheese. The large group of us that went won't be back.

We visited this restaurant several times and the food and service was excellent. The chips and salsa were fantastic. One of my visits was on Taco Tuesday and Mindy the server was really helpful. We can't wait to go back again.

I was excited to try a new original non-chain restaurant in the hood. More specifically, downtown where I live and work. A family-owned restaurant that has been in KCMO since 1979 has to be good right? My wife passed by the place as they were in their opening week and building their patio and I've been itching to try it since. After reading the WILDLY disparate reviews, I didn't know what to think! I came as a group of four to check it out for lunch. Parking is tough, so we parked at the Consentino lot and ate the buck (since Mama Tio's doesn't validate parking). The staff sat us right away. The restaurant is quite large with a bar and a good size patio. It was a bit warm, so we passed on the patio (we'll come back when we have our dog and try the patio at night). The place only had a few groups there at lunch time. I was expecting a lunch buffet, but the online menu must be out of date along with the directions on their website. The server was extremely friendly and charismatic taking our orders right away, smiling, cracking jokes and being quite helpful. When he asked if we wanted refills and we said yes, he gave me an ice tea by accident. I told him and he let me keep it no charge. He was definitely trying to get us to try the alcohol as he was passing around free samples of the margaritas (very good size samples that were heavy on the tequila and light on the mix). The Margaritas pack a punch and are sweet. What food did I order? Well, they have a lunch special menu and I chose "G," the beef taco and beef burrito. The beef taco had highly seasoned ground beef (a lot of beef). The burrito was an open tortilla with the same quality beef, beans, and some other stuff. I expected a burrito that would be wrapped and have more contents. Chipotle / El Patron burrito it was not. So, lots and lots of food, but I didn't like how the burrito was made/presented and the beef quality wasn't what I expected. Definitely on the lower end and very salty. Someone said in our group "taco bell esque." However, I ate most of it. It'll fill you up for sure. Bottomless chips & Salsa: They gave us hot, mild and sour creme-based salsa. The hot was enjoyable and I didn't taste any ketchup like stuff in there that was described in other reviews. The girls LOVED the sour creme based one. So, I'll be back? For what you may ask? The server just rocked! We'll go back for drinks & chips n salsa on the patio with our dog. I don't know if I'll order some substantial food again until they change chefs. I didn't think the tacos/burritos were terrible, but they weren't good either. I'm glad this place is around as they have extended hours and are open on the weekend and we can walk to it. Maybe we'll have a dog meet and greet party over Margaritas here. I'm sure Angela would be game.

To say that our experience...15 of us...was bad does not do it justice....if I could give ZERO stars I would. Service was terrible, the food was bad and it was freezing cold in this place. We asked several times to close the inner door of the entrance off the street, but the server did not do it....some of use wore our winter coats and when we asked for hot drink choices, the waitress said they had iced tea.....how is iced tea hot???? Again...I would not waste my time at this place ever again...avoid it like the plague!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
